Our Childcare First Aid Course (HLTAID012) is the mandatory, ACECQA-approved qualification for educators, childcare workers, nannies, and school staff in the ACT. This specialised course covers the essential life-saving skills needed to protect infants and children in an education and care setting.

  • Course Code: HLTAID012 (Includes HLTAID009 CPR)

  • Compliance: Meets all National Quality Framework (NQF) requirements for First Aid, Asthma, and Anaphylaxis training.

  • Delivery: Blended learning  – Self-paced online theory and  practical face to face in Belconnen.

  • Certificate: Upon successful completion of the course and once all assessment requirements are met and full payment has been receive, you will be issued a Statement of Attainment. We aim to issue your Statement of Attainment within 24 hours of verifying all completion requirements.

  • Validity: 3 years for First Aid; 12 months for the CPR component.

At Local First Aid Courses Belconnen, we specialise in HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting – the specific qualification required by ACECQA for anyone working with infants and children. All our First Aid Courses include CPR HLTAID009.

Our comprehensive Childcare First Aid course is more than just a standard certificate. It is a specialised program designed to give you the confidence to manage pediatric emergencies, including:

  • Asthma & Anaphylaxis Management: In-depth training on using spacers and adrenaline auto-injectors (EpiPens) for children.

  • Infant & Child CPR: Specific techniques for babies and toddlers that differ from adult protocols.

  • Common Childhood Illnesses: How to recognise and respond to high fevers, convulsions, and allergic reactions in a group care environment.

Course Requirements:

Get your nationally recognised Childcare First Aid certificate in Belconnen. This ACECQA-approved course is specifically designed for educators, childcare workers, and parents in the ACT.

Course Delivery & Duration

We offer two flexible Blended Learning options to suit your experience level. Both include self-paced online theory followed by a hands-on practical session in Belconnen.

Express Delivery

This streamlined “Fast-Track” session is designed for active first aiders who maintain a level of readiness.

Best For: Individuals who regularly provide first aid in their workplace and/or have completed a first aid course.

Requirements: This mode is specifically for students who have a professional requirement to utilise and maintain these skills in their current workplace.

Focus: This session focuses solely on practical assessments.

Duration: We allow 60 minutes, plus completion of pre-course online learning.

Standard Delivery

This comprehensive session is designed for those who require a full, guided training program.

Best For: New learners, those who have not refreshed their skills in several years, or individuals who do not frequently need to use first aid skills in their daily workplace.

Focus: A longer duration with thorough training in skills and knowledge to prepare you for practical assessments.

Duration: We allow 6 hours of face-to-face learning plus up to 2 hours of online learning.

  • Standard Long Program Certification: $160

Entry Requirements

  • Physical Capacity: You must be able to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin on the floor.

  • Online Pre-work: Tutorials and quizzes must be completed online prior to your workshop date.

Both options provide the same nationally accredited Statement of Attainment (issued by ABC First Aid RTO 3399) including:

  • HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Entry Requirements

  • Online Pre-work: Tutorials and quizzes must be completed online prior to your workshop date.

Practical Skills & Assessments Participants will be assessed on their ability to manage real-world scenarios, including:

  • CPR & AED: Adult and infant resuscitation with defibrillator use.

  • Medical Emergencies: Managing asthma, anaphylaxis, and choking.

  • Trauma: Treating fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, and nosebleeds.

  • Wound Care: Managing non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.

  • Local Hazards: Treatment for envenomation (snake and funnel-web spider bites).

  • Incident Reporting: Completing a first aid report based on a simulated event.

Location & Workplace Training Courses are held at our Belconnen training facility.

What to Bring on the Day

  • Comfortable Clothing: You will be required to perform practical tasks on the floor.

  • Your USI Number: Ensure you have this ready for verification.

Renewals & Validity

  • First Aid: Valid for 3 years.

  • CPR Component: Industry standards recommend renewal every 12 months.

  • Easy Renewal: To stay compliant, simply book the Express version of this course through our booking calendar before your current certificate expires.

  • Standard Fee: A $40.00 fee may be applied to cancellations or rescheduling.

  • Notice Period: If less than 12 hours’ notice is provided (or in the case of a “no show”), the full course fee may be charged.
